India registers biggest win in overseas

India registered their biggest win overseas after defeating West Indies by an innings and 92 runs in the first Test in Antigua on Sunday. On the fourth day, West Indies needed to match the follow-on score and force the match into fifth day by making India bat.

The start to the day was superb for India as Umesh Yadav got a wicket in the first over of the day. A small stand did come up later but R Ashwin stepped up to pick wickets. Ashwin’s burst of five wickets rattled West Indies and the hopes of saving the Test were over.

Marlon Samuels scored a half-century to briefly keep West Indies afloat. But Mishra dismissed Dorwich and Ashwin later sent Holder back to end the resistance. A later partnership between Brathwaite and Bishoo delayed India’s win as India tried picking up the last 2 wickets.

Ashwin finally dismissed Bishoo and then Gabriel to win it for India.
