Google play store new update will make the size of the app more transparent to the user by displaying the information more clearly. It initially displayed only the APK file size not the original file size but the changes are rolling out now. Google has added a new algorithm to the Google play store that will both reduce and display the size of Android app updates. These changes will make a big difference of users with limited data and on small storage device.According to a record for about 98% of app updates only to APK files are downloaded and merged with the existing files. But this new algorithm will reduce the patches by 50%. The compression algorithm is capable of reducing the download size of initial installs of a file as large as 2 GB by 12% and updates by 65%. It's seems that the downloaded size and disk size neither the same as the original APK file size nor correlated. Its advised to user to remobve unnecessary data in order to reduce the size. Further parts of APK can be optimised to them smaller. It can be achieved by more efficient file format like WebP instead of JPEG. With this new update the user will be clearly shown the actual size of the app and user can decide whether it has to be downloaded or not. This will suit well for the heavy games and VR games that usually eats a lot of disk space.
