Social media giant Facebook's team brings Light based Internet which will strengthen the communication is closer to its reality. Scientists at the Facebook's Connectivity Lab has developed a new way to detect light signal that travels through the air ,an advance of it which may leads to fast wireless network so that the internet services can have no barriers . With this we can have the service to remote areas. The high speed internet today which we use is making the use of laser to carry out information through optical fibre but this wireless communication is truly based on microwaves or radio frequencies. The main drawback of the internet service is people can't connect to it as the wireless communication infrastructure is not available to their place mostly in rural areas. This Light Based wireless communication which is otherwise known as Free space optical communication Promises to provide internet services where the optical fibre and cell towers cab be challenging deploy in a cost effective way.Using the laser to carry out in the atmosphere potentially offers a high bandwidth and data capacity but the challenge is how to point a very small laser beam carrying the data at a tiny little detector which is some distance away. The recent researches uses a fluorescent materials instead of optics and concentrate into a small photo detector. They combines a light collector 126 square centimeter of surface that collects light from any direction with the existing telecommunications technology to achieve data rates of more 2Gbps.They have demonstrated the use of fluorescent fibre that absorbs one colour and emit another colour. The optical fibre absorbs light from any direction of an large area and the emitted light travels inside the optical fibre which funnels the light to a small a very fast photo detector.By incorporating a signal modulation method known as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmits more than 2 Gbps despite the bandwidth of 100 MHz.This method of encoding a digital data so that multiple data stream can be sent at once. They achieved the high data speed rate using commercially available materials that are not designed for communication applications. The various techniques is being researched to bring this to real world.
