It is about cooling our electronic devices with silicon dioxide nano particles. Silicon dioxide nano particles coated with high dielectric constant polymer in order to provide more cooling for power hungry devices. Silicon dioxide doesn't do the cooling itself, the surface properties of coated nanoscale materials conducts the heat.
The principle beyond this is nanoscale electromagnetic effects on the surface of the tiny silicon dioxide particles. It could conduct heat efficiently than conventional materials. This shows packed nano particles act as a insulator when combined with light by high dielectric constant medium like water or ethylene glycol.
It also says if we have right type of nano particles packed in a bed, we don't want to collide light with them, if you heat the nano particles , the thermal self-emission activates the effect. Silicon dioxide was chosen because its crystalline nature generate resonant optical phenons which is necessary for the effect at approximate room temperature.
Further testing is required for long term efficiency and to confirm that there are no impacts on the electronic device cooled with this technique.
