TN govt introduces bill to elect mayor :But DMk opposed bill

AIADMK government on Wednesday introduced a bill to amend municipal corporation laws to revoke the practice of direct elections to the mayoral posts in the state. The elections to the local bodies are slated for October this year.
The bill, if enacted as law, will facilitate the election of mayor by the elected councilors.
DMK MLA and former mayor of Chennai Corporation and senior DMK leader E V Velu said the party opposed the bill.
