Now a days , once a msg is sent it can not be deleted from receivers inbox. In Slack we can delete the sent messages, but in WhatsApp and Facebook it is not possible.
But future update to messenger could delete sent messages ,even it is delivered. On shaking the phone or tap the animation, there will be an option to prevent the receiver from viewing the message.
If the message hasn't delivered, it could be stopped. If the message is delivered as soon as it will be deleted from receivers inbox. It depends on multiple factors like frequency of talking to the person. And the disadvantage is that only most recent messages could be deleted.
