SPB wins yet another Prestigious National Honour.Veteran singer S.P.Balasubrahmanyam has been conferred with the Centenary Award for the Indian Film Personality of the Year. It is a proud moment for every Indian movie and music buff.
The award has been instituted by the Information & Broadcasting Ministry of the Union Government of India. Superstar Rajinikanth and Isaignani Ilaiyaraja received the awards for the years 2014 and 2015.It will be given to the Guinness record holder for recording the most number of songs in the 47th edition of International Film Festival of India to be held in Goa on November 27 & 28, 2016. I&B Minister Arun Jaitley will present the award to the legendary singer.Fondly addressed as SPB, Sripathi Panditharadhyula Balasubrahmanyam made his debut as a singer with the 1966 Telugu film 'Sri Maryadha Ramanna'. The first song he recorded for a Tamil film was 'Iyarkaiennum Ilayakanni', the duet song featuring Gemini Ganesan and Kanchana composed by M.S.Viswanathan for the 1969 thriller flick 'Shanthi Nilayam'.Since then SPB went on to become the leading singer in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi language and his singing career is still vibrant with over 40,000 songs in his discography.The legend has been honoured with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan Civilian awards given by the Indian Government. He has also won six National Awards
(Three in Telugu and one each in Tamil, Hindi and Kannada) and hundreds of regional awards and honours.
Now IFFI has attained glory by conferring this award to the unparalleled legend of Indian Film and Music industry.
