The First Major Rain of the season brought Chandigarh to a standstill with waterlogged roads causing a heavy traffic blocks.within 12 hours starting from 8.30 am to 8.30 pm the city received 12.4 mm of rain which was continued and showered upto 19 mm till morning.
Areas that came under the water were the sectors 17-18 :the madhya marg , all inside roads of the sector,the industrial areas near the CTU workshop were flooded.The flood also covered the sectors 23,29,35,43,44, and 45.
Panchkula road near housing board lights,colony no 4 and 5,roads leading from attawa to sector 35, Palsora,Burail,sector-29 iron market were the worst hit.
Humidity covered about 95%.To make matters worse the traffic police personnel were nowhere to be seen,causing congestion in peak hours.Traffic signal also stopped working at major intersections and roundabouts.
DSP(traffic) Rajiv Kumar Ambasta claimed he has deployed cops on all intersections."There was no traffic jam,only few cars remain stuck.I travelled across the city around 10 am and did not encounter any traffic jam", he asserted.
while Vinay Dhar,who works in the sector-17 said,"most of my colleagues arrived late to the office as they were stuck in the snarls ".The monsoon has only begun and already claims of police and other authorities stand exposed , Dhar added.
