Salem woman's suicide case: Youth Arrested

    Two days after a 21-year-old woman graduatecommitted suicideover the use of her morphed image on Facebook, the district police arrested P. Suresh (21), a powerloom worker, for uploading her picture on social media and also abetting her to commit suicide.
      Confirming the arrest, Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Singh told The Hinduthat after receiving the details of IP address on Tuesday evening, the youth was traced to a village located about 2 km from the women's  house. The youth had expressed his willingness to marry her which she refused. Hence, he planned to tarnish her name. "Suresh had confessed to the crime," the SP added.
       On June 16, Suresh called the girl's father and spoke about her in an indecent manner. The accused had used an application in his mobile phone and morphed the picture and uploaded it twice, the police said.After the victim found her morphed picture, her father lodged a complaint with the SP who forwarded it to Magudanchavadi police on June 23.
       However, on Monday, the girl once again found the picture tagging her on Facebook, with her father’s mobile numbermentioned with the image. Upset. Were over this,when her parents were away, she reportedly hung herself. She was later rushed to the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital in Salem where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
       Demanding the arrest of the accused and also seeking action against the policemen for their negligence in blocking the Facebook page, her parents refused to receive the body on Monday. They also took up the issue with the Collector. Later, Mr. Amit Kumar Singh met the parents at the hospital and assured action against the two policemen. He also ruled out negligence on their part.
      Postmortem was then conducted and parents received the body. The police had earlier registered a case under Section 306(abetment of suicide) of IPC.
