More than 50 motors were seized

The  Revenue officials caught farmers drawing water illegally from River Amaravathi at 47 places during raids conducted over three days in Dharapuram revenue division, ending on Thursday. Revenue Divisional Officer (Dharapuram) G. Saravanamurthy told that 47 motors that were used to pump water from the river and pipelines used to take the water to the fields were seized.

“We have already warned the farmers on the banks of River Amaravathi against drawing water directly from the watercourse. Despite that, the illegal tapping of water came to our notice along the 25-km stretch between Dharapuram and Puthupai, and hence, the action,” he said.
